Northview Titans Junior Varsity Boys Game Summary

Riverwood v. Northview - 2-0
February 17th

The Northview Titan JV Boys lost a tough match 2-0, to the Riverwood Raiders, Thursday evening on the beautiful new artificial field at Northview High School.

The game was evenly matched from the beginning, with the 1st half ending in a 0-0 tie. The Titans dominated midfield play during the half but were only able to turn that dominance into 3 shots on goal. The best opportunities of the half came on two strong runs and crosses by Russell Branford and a smooth backheel pass from Alex Tertichney to Pall Kornmayer, but the Raider Keeper made a nice save on Kornmayer's shot. Tertichney also had a hard shot that went just wide as the first half ended. Josh Taylor and Cameron Greenburg were among the players helping to control the pace of the play in the half and Josh Dunn and Ramu Annamalai were very strong on defense for Northview.

Riverwood turned up the pressure after half-time and scored the game's first goal in the 7th minute of the second half on a nice pass from near the sideline to a forward in the center of the field. Titan Keeper Aaron Kim had no chance on the play. Riverwood scored again in the 20th minute of play on an interior rebound that began with a corner kick, one of Riverwood's three corners in the second half. Again, because of the fortunate rebound, Keeper Kim had no chance to make the save. However, Kim did have a good game with 7 saves, the most spectacular in the closing seconds of the game. A Raider ripped a shot right down the center and Kim was able to jump and tip the ball over the crossbar. Northview's best scoring chance in the second half came on a sustained possession, which resulted in a nice shot by Pall Kornmayer. However, the shot was ripped just over the crossbar.

All in all, it was a solid effort from the Titan men in their first outing of the season and they will be able to build on this game during the remainder of the season.
