Northview Titans Junior Varsity Boys Game Summary

Northview v. Central Forsyth - 2-0
February 27th

The JV boys season is now back on schedule!  After beginning their 2006 season two weeks ago with a game that started 30 mins late they made up the deficit by beginning this game 30 mins early, nevertheless, the result was the same – another victory for the JV Boys.

The team, which was captained today by Caulin Collier and Jarrod Neser, kicked-off in a 4-4-2 formation with the starting line-up being:-

Carter Rhoad
Gio Perazza      Caulin Collier                Chase Collier                Steve Whiteside
CJ Jones          Sebastian Czech           Jarrod Nesser               Josh Taylor
Russell Bradford           Steve Kim

Having arrived a little early for the scheduled 7:30 p.m. kick-off this correspondent missed the first 20 minutes of the game but the boys kindly left the real action until later in the game.  With there still being no score by the 24th min Jarrod Neser had a long range shot zip passed the Bulldog’s right hand upright.  A couple of minutes later the Forsyth team tested Carter Rhoad, who was making his debut in goal after recovering from a broken wrist, and he stood up well to the task.  The first half fizzled out with the Titans getting a late shot on the Bulldog goal but the score remained 0 – 0 at half time.

The Titans began the second half playing long balls to each other but it was not effective and the Forsyth team was the first one to take at shot at goal and it went past the Titan’s right hand post.  In the 38th min the Bulldogs won a free kick just inside the Titan half however the kick cleared all of the field players and was easily caught by Carter Rhoad.  From the clearance Josh Taylor fed the ball to Russell Bradford who won a corner on the left side of the field.  Two minutes later, Josh Taylor got the ball just outside of the penalty area with his back to goal.  He turned quickly and fired in a shot which the Bulldog keeper caught.

Northview stopped the long passes and began to move the ball around crisply, making room for themselves and deservedly took the lead in the 41st minute when Russell Bradford took the ball down the right wing, beat two defenders then made a left foot cross to Chad Elsey on the left side of the field.  Chad took the ball into the penalty area and easily beat the Bulldog goalkeeper.  Titans  1 - 0  Bulldogs.  The Titans now had the Bulldogs chasing the ball and the home team began to look tired as Chad Elsey hit a long range shot passed the left post.  CJ Jones then fed a ball to Steve Kim but he was called offside as Northview kept the pressure on the Bulldog defense.  In the 45th min Caulin Collier took a free kick just inside the Bulldog half and put the ball into the opposing team’s penalty area, however, the Bulldogs defended well and counter attacked down their right wing.  Unfortunately for them, Steve Whitesides was in defense and he cleared the ball easily.

In the 52nd minute, Northview pumped the ball into the Bulldog area and their defense were unable to clear it well and as the ball ran out of the penalty box Russell Bradford hit it back and scored inside the right side post.  Titans lead 2 – 0.  Northview were enjoying a good spell and Jarrod Neser hit a shot from 30 yds which beat the goalie but also went passed the right hand post.  The Forsyth team then had a clear 2 on 1 break and as one player passed to another by the Titan’s penalty spot, Carter Rhoad made a great save with his legs as the Bulldogs won their first corner of the half.

The Titans nearly scored a third goal after Mike Driscoll won the ball in midfield.  He passed to a team-mate who was fouled midway in the Bulldog half.  Jarrod Neser took the free kick which cleared the defensive wall, beat the goalie but bounced back off the crossbar.  CJ Jones was first to react and he headed the rebound wide of the left hand post.  With 9 mins left Northview brought on Chase Collier and Brandon Burton.

Forsyth made some concerted efforts to take the ball down both wings but each time they were blocked by either Gio Perazza or Steve Whitesides.  The game was a little more physical as players became frustrated and Mike Driscoll collected a yellow card with 2 mins remaining in the game.

Final score 2 – 0 to the Titans.
