Northview Titans Junior Varsity Boys Game Summary
Peachtree Ridge v. Northview 2-0
March 10th
The weather was much better than Monday night as they kicked off at 7:45 pm. The Titans began with Bader Kashlan in goal and Chase Collier, Josh Hoehn, Ross Cantrell and Tyler Dewitt all cracking the starting line up.
After 3 minutes the Titans made a nice move down the left wing with Jason Alwes passing to Nathan Thompson before the ball went out of play for a throw to the Peachtree Ridge Lions. In the 5th minute Bader Kashlan collected the ball and cleared it up field. Peachtree Ridge had a free kick from 22 yds which was blocked by Ramu Annamalai. The Lions were essentially controlling the game although neither side had a shot on target until the 10th minute when Ross Cantrell cleared the ball of the line.
Shortly thereafter Coach Folds, taking a leaf out of Sven-Goran Eriksson's book, made five substitutions and the Titans came back into the game. A nice fluid move began with Ramu passing to Jason Alwes who sent Steve Kim down the wing before crossing to Alex Tertichny. Northview was looking much better but, Peachtree Ridge had some dangerous breaks and they got their first corner after some good defending by Jason Alwes. From the corner in the 18th minute, Pall Kornmayer made a long clearance to Alex Tertichny but his pass was collected by the Lion's goalkeeper, who made a very long clearance which bounced over the heads of the Titans defense and one of the Lions forwards scored with a chip shot over Aaron Kim.
Five minutes later the Titans won their first corner when Cameron Greenburg had a shot saved by the goalie. Sam Bevan's corner kick went to Alex Tertichny whose shot went over the bar.
In the 28th minute the Lions had a throw-in deep in the Titan's end. The Lion's player had a long and dangerous throw into the penalty box which the Titans cleared. Russell Bradford sped down the right wing and crossed into the center but there were no Titans there to meet the ball. Sam Bevan then had a long range shot as the Titans picked it up a notch. With 5 minutes left Pall Kornmayer's shot was saved by the Lion's goalie. Russell Bradford again raced down the right wing and centered the ball to Tyler Dewitt whose left foot shot went wide. The Titans survived a scare in the 33rd minute when a high cross from the Lions hit the bar and then the post before being cleared.
Josh Taylor who had been injured in the last game came on for Steve Kim early in the second half. The Titans put the Lions under pressure and after 47 minutes Tyler Dewitt forced the Lions goalkeeper to make a full length save. Russell Bradford crossed the ball from the left wing and the Titans drew a foul outside of the penalty box. Sam Bevan's free kick was just wide. Next, Sam tried a very cheeky free kick from 40 yards which the keeper stopped on the line.
As so often happens, after a long spell of Titan pressure, Peachtree Ridge rebounded and earned a throw-in deep inside the Titan half. Another long throw resulted in a headed goal for the Lions with 11 minutes left. The Titans refused to roll over and Cameron Greenburg and Pall Kornmayer had shots before Russell Bradford won a corner. Sam Bevan's in-swinging corner was cleared off the Lion's line but the Titans couldn't do anymore and it finished: Titans 0 - Lions 2
