Northview Titans Junior Varsity Boys Game Summary

Northview v. South Forsyth, 1-3
March 14th

Little did they know it at the 5:55pm kick-off but the JV Titans were in for a long night.literally. For whatever reason, the South Forsyth officials (both of them) decided on 40 minute halves rather than 35 minutes.

Not long after the game kicked off, the Titans attacked and Josh Hoehn got a header on target. After 8 minutes, Pall Kornmayer had a shot just over the bar, unfortunately a few minutes later, the Titans gave up the ball just outside the centre of their penalty box and they were punished as the War Eagles scored long range and it was 1 - 0.

South Forsyth controlled the game for the next 10 minutes when some nice play by the Titans took the ball from the middle to Tyler Dewitt on the left wing & his cross, headed by Pall Kornmayer, and was saved by the goal keeper. At 28 minutes Russell Bradford won a throw in near the corner flag. Josh Taylor put the throw into the War Eagles' penalty area. The goal keeper collected the ball & hurriedly tossed it out straight to Sam Bevan who passed to Tyler Dewitt whose shot was then stopped on the line by the keeper. Nice pressure by the Titans.

After 31 minutes Tyler Dewitt was fouled & the War Eagles player got a yellow card. From the resulting free kick, Sam Bevan put the ball into the penalty box but the Titans forwards could do nothing.

The second half began with Bader Kashlan playing up front with Josh Taylor. In the early action Sam Bevan had one of his trade-mark long range shots but this time it didn't cause any trouble for the Forsyth keeper. After 2 minutes of this half, South Forsyth scored a great goal on the half volley from 30 yards which gave the Titans defense no chance, 2 - 0.

In the 48th minute, Jason Alwes began a move to Josh Taylor who passed to Tyler Dewitt who took the ball into the box before centering the ball. The cross was deflected and Bader Kashlan just missed connecting with a header from close range.

After 55 minutes, Josh Taylor broke down the left wing but fouled a War Eagles player who retaliated & they were both yellow-carded. At 60 minutes there was some good end-to-end play with Tyler Dewitt playing the ball to Steve Kim before South Forsyth's counter-attack was broken up by Josh Dunn. Russell Bradford played the ball through to Steve Kim & good play by the defense put the ball out for a throw-in. Pall Kornmayer got the ball from the throw-in & his left foot shot went wide. Three minutes later Chase Collier collected the ball in midfield & played it out to Alex Tertichney whose centered ball was picked up by the keeper.

In the 67th minute the Titans won a penalty when Pall Kornmayer was fouled in the box. Sam Bevan made no mistake from 12 yards & the Titans had their first goal of the season. Let's hope they don't have to wait another 347 minutes before their 2nd goal.

The Titans began to put on a lot of pressure. Russell, Pall, & Josh Hoehn played the ball to Steve Kim who was fouled. Sam's free kick came back out to Josh Hoehn who played the ball to Russell & Alex Tertichney. out on the left wing. Alex centered the ball but the keeper just beat Tyler Dewitt to the cross. South Forsyth raced towards the Titans goal but was stopped by Ramu Annamalai who played a one-two with Josh Dunn. Ramu played the ball to Pall Kornmayer who gave it to Tyler Dewitt on the right wing. He beat the defender but his cross was cleared for a throw-in.

In the 75th minute South Forsyth won a free kick on the right side of the Titans' box. A good free kick put the ball right in front of the goal on the 6 yard line. The Titans' defense stood still & a Forsyth forward headed in, unchallenged. The Titans need to mark forwards in dead ball situations.

This produced a wake-up call to the Titans & 2 minutes later Russell Bradford raced to the right of the War Eagles goal before turning the defender & his left foot shot produced a save from the keeper who pushed the ball out for a corner. Russell took the corner from the left & the ball was deflected out for another corner which Sam Bevan took left-footed from the right. The Titans thought they had a 3rd corner but the ball went out for a throw near the corner flag. Alex Tertichney got the ball from the throw, but his shot went wide. In the dying minutes Sam won a corner which Russell took right footed from the left side. It was headed off the line by the defense & the ball fell to Sam whose low hard shot was blocked & rebounded to Josh Dunn. His shot went wide & that signaled the end. So despite all their late efforts, the Titans could not buy another goal.
