It was a horrible night, literally and figuratively, as the teams kicked off in pouring rain. With injuries playing a heavy toll on the Titans, players were asked to start in different positions and the strike force consisted of the two back up goalkeepers!
Looking for revenge of last year’s first ever defeat by a Northview soccer team, Chattahoochee kicked off and played a controlled game in midfield. They forced the Titans back into defense at every opportunity and had the first few shots on Carter Rhoad in the Northview goal. Disaster struck in the 6th minute as a Cougar forward came in from the right wing and tried to cross the ball but it hit the chest of Russell Bradford and was deflected into Northview’s net. Closing in on the 10 minute mark the Titans had their first chance as Jarrod Neser hit a volley from outside of the box only for Bader Kashlan to be caught offside.
The Cougars continued to look dangerous through the middle and on several occasions Carter Rhoad rushed out to gather the ball near the edge of his penalty box. Mike Driscoll entered the game for Chase Collier and shortly thereafter Steve Kim tried a speculative shot from 35 yards which the Cougar goalie gathered easily. A couple of minutes later Northview won a free kick just inside the Cougar half and from Jarrod Neser’s free kick the Cougars were lucky to escape as their goalie missed the ball and it rolled wide. The Cougars took a 2 – 0 lead in the 17th minute following another break from the center of midfield.
Ross Cantrell and Sebastian Czech made way for CJ Jones and Chad Elsey but the Titan’s luck did not change and the Cougars hit the goalpost with one shot before taking a 3 – 0 lead in the 22nd minute. Northview had several attacks later in the first half but nothing really threatened the Cougars’ goal.
Chattahoochee had a good spell for the first 10 minutes of the second half and the Titans began to clear the ball from their penalty area with wild kicks and as so often happens the ball then went to an opposition player and the attack began all over again. In the 45th minute the Titans had one of their rare attacks and Josh Taylor was fouled just outside of the Cougar penalty area. Jarrod Neser’s free kick cleared the defensive wall but it also cleared the goal. Later in the game Northview had their best chance of scoring as Bader Kashlan fed the ball to Steve Kim who turned as he shot and hit the crossbar.
Final score Northview 0 – 3 Chattahoochee
