Northview Titans Junior Varsity Boys Game Summary
Duluth v. Northview 1-1
April 11th
Kick off temperature in the mid 70's was very pleasant, but the pollen count at over 2800 was not. Through the pollen haze, the Titans' uniforms looked yellow rather than white!
The Wildcats began the game by quickly attacking the Titans' goal and managed to get a shot on target within the first minute. After only 2 minutes, Aaron Kim was forced to make a save at the feet of a Wildcats' forward and got a cut over his right eye for his troubles. Aaron was replaced in goal by Bader Kashlan and from Bader's clearance the Titans made their first foray into Duluth territory.
In the 5th minute Duluth looked very close to being offside but play was allowed to carry on and the Duluth forward's shot came back out off the underside of the Titans' crossbar. A couple of minutes later, the Wildcats broke down the left wing and the low hard center was parried away by Bader, however, the ball was collected by another Duluth forward who shot on goal and the goalkeeper saved it. Thanks Bader, well played! After 8 minutes the Titans had their first shot on goal as Russell Bradford worked his way right to left across the top of the box before dropping the ball back to Sam Bevan who shot at goal.
As they approached the 10 minute mark Jason Alwes and Ross Cantrell came on for Cameron Greenburg and Josh Hoehn. Aaron Kim had been patched up at this stage and returned in goal.
In the 15th minute, the Titans managed their second good attack as Ross Cantrell went wide right and crossed the ball towards the danger area in front of the goal but the goalkeeper was the first to it. Three minutes later, Steve Kim, who had come on for Chase Collier, fed the ball to Russell on the wing but his center was just too high for Ross Cantrell. Josh Dunn began a nice move in the 20th minute when he passed to Pall Kornmayer. Pall played it to Russell who gave it to Alex Tertechny on the right wing.
At the 23 minute mark, Ramu Annamalai and Tyler DeWitt combined well to stop a Duluth attack and then Jonathan Lee came on for Tyler. Russell Bradford broke through the middle to hit a shot just over the bar. He then combined with Steve Kim who was stopped by the Wildcats' goalie.
With 10 minutes left, Duluth won the first corner of the game. Aaron Kim collected the ball and his long clearance was kicked into touch by a Duluth defender near his own penalty box. Sam Bevan played the ball to Pall Kornmayer before Duluth managed to clear the ball. Josh Taylor and Sung Baek replaced Russell and Alex after 28 minutes. In the next few minutes Duluth won some free kicks inside the Titan's half of the field but each time the Titans held firm.
Duluth kicked-off the second half with the game still scoreless. The Titans won a throw-in and Ross Cantrell, Steve Kim, Josh Hoehn and Josh Dunn were all involved in the play before it was forced out for another throw-in. In the 38th minute Alex and Steve worked well together for Steve to hit a right foot shot just wide. Four minutes later Steve was fouled on the 28 yd line and Sam Bevan's free kick was caught by the goalie on the goal line. The Titan's won their first corner in the 44th minute and Josh Hoehn went for Sam's in-swinging corner but a defender got there first and cleared it. The first real good chance of the second half fell to Duluth one minute later. Aaron Kim had blocked a shot which Ramu was forced to clear for a corner. From the corner Josh Dunn headed the ball out but a forward sent it right back into the six yard box where a Duluth player headed just over the bar.
In the 56th minute Duluth took a deserved lead after some continued pressure which the Titans failed to subdue. This was a wake up call for the Titans and they began to apply some pressure of their own and two minutes later Sam Bevan took a free kick from which Alex Tertechny just failed to redirect towards the goal. At the 62nd minute mark, Duluth subbed out six players and the Titans made them pay within the minute. Ramu began the move in the Titan half before passing to Ross Cantrell. Ross passed to Russell Bradford whose low hard center towards the six yard box was turned in by Josh Taylor to tie the game 1 - 1.
After some initial pressure by the Titans following their equalizer, the game came to a quiet end although Duluth was pressing at the final whistle.
