Goal Club Meeting Minutes

May 6, 2007

The meeting of the Goal Club Board at the Seven Oaks Clubhouse was called to order by Russell Whorton at 7:30 p.m.  All four board members were present.

Titantron funding was discussed.  Two varsity girls’ parents took on the cost of providing the graphics and board use for both varsity teams for home games all season. Unfortunately, their agreement with Mr. Jamie Chuven to do it under the same terms as last year undermined the Goal Club’s efforts to negotiate a more favorable financial agreement with him. The Goal Club Board finds the cost of using the Titantron to be unacceptably high.  Lacrosse did not use the board at all this year, and soccer will not be using Goal Club funds for its use next year.  It is a shame that Northview sports cannot be highlighted at home games with the Titantron for a more reasonable fee.  It seems that all teams should have reasonable access to this wonderful asset. This is an issue that the football boosters, who paid for the board, have to take up with Mr. Chuven.

Turf payments are being made by football, lacrosse, soccer, and Jr. Titans, each in the same amount, $7,000 per year.  It was pointed out that soccer has the fewest players with around 70 athletes, so that the cost of the turf loan per soccer player is $100 per year.  Football has many more players and uses the turf many more months of the year than the spring sports do.  These inequities are glaring.  In addition, there will soon be a semi-pro football team using Northview’s field as its home field, and there is a Sunday league of Hispanic soccer players.  The latter are supposed to “pay” for their use of the field through maintenance around the campus and fields, while it is unknown what the football team will pay.

There was discussion of having team accounts, where the coaches are given a dollar amount per player that they can use at their discretion, for meals, bus transportation, team dinners and activities, spirit wear, training, etc. A current breakdown of the costs associated with this past season show that it costs about $727 per player to field four teams, all inclusive.  The current charge of $250 per player obviously doesn’t cover this, so fund raising has to make up the difference.  Unfortunately, this year’s fundraisers were not as successful as in years past, primarily due to lack of volunteer help.  The golf tournament was not a successful endeavor and will be dropped next year.  New ideas are needed for a major fundraiser.

The by-law revisions were discussed and modified

The date for the Annual Meeting was set for May 15.  Officer elections will be held and the new by-laws will be ratified.
