Goal Club Meeting Minutes
August 21, 2006
Russell Whorton, Goal Club President, called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. 20 parents were present.
Uniforms: Samples of the new Nike uniforms for the 2007 season were presented. Approximately $13,100 was spent on 2 sets of uniforms for all 4 teams plus warm-ups and bags. There is a new crest for the Northview Titan Soccer Team, which was also shown. Unfortunately, over 29,000 stitches and one full hour are required to for each crest, making embroidered crests too expensive for spirit wear. Silk screening will be a more economical option.
Fees: There will be an increase in player fees for 2006-07, with the final amount to be determined. Last year players were charged about $90. Soccer has had one of the lowest annual fees of any sport. Most charge $250 per year on average. The reasons for the increase include 1.) travel expenses for the early (5:30 p.m.) away games - school buses will not be available early enough to transport players to some of the schools in our new region, such as Sequoyah, so private motor coaches may be needed; 2.) food expenses for the players with the later away games – proposed increase from $6 per meal per player to $8; 3.) annual turf payment of $7,000 has to be made on April 1, 2007; 4.) additional practice space for the spring sports is desperately needed - any proposal will potentially involve a financial commitment from soccer and lacrosse. (see Old Business).
Superkick: Charlie Scannella discussed the training program available at this facility, which is geared especially for soccer players. A special offer is generously being made to Northview soccer players, with a 10% rebate back to the Goal Club. The sessions are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Fundraising: 1.) Golf outing date has to be changed, probably to sometime in March. Due to turnover of personnel, the Standard Club did not hold the original April date open. 2.) Desales Wagster presented an idea to sell soccer bracelets, which are the new rage in Europe, especially after the World Cup. The sample shown has a sterling silver bar with a soccer logo that could be customized, as well as a sterling silver clasp. The bracelet itself could be made in school colors. More details will follow as inventory comes in and prices are determined.
3.) Tina Eskenazi presented a proposal to raise money through car washes at Carnett’s, which her family owns. There are 2 options, one of which is to sell $13 coupons of which the Goal Club would keep 50%. The other option involves soccer players coming to Carnett’s car wash on a given Saturday and “selling” customers on coming in and having their cars washed there at that time. Depending on the type of wash chosen, the Goal Club would keep $3 or $5.
Banquet: Should we consider other location options for the end-of-year banquet?
Publicity: A volunteer is needed to bring more community/media attention to Northview soccer.
Titan Booster Club: Kohl Collier reviewed discussions on additional practice space at the corner of Parsons Road and Hwy 141. Although Fulton County Schools already owns the parcel, the cost of renovation is estimated at $350,000. Also, the Titan Booster Club is heavily promoting booster memberships this year. Past growth has only been about 9%, mostly from the same families increasing their levels of membership. Titan cards will be available to all sports as a fundraiser again this year.
Old Business: The Goal Club board will be reviewing the bylaws and proposing amendments to the membership this year.
Coach Cianciola and Coach Barr were unable to attend, as they were attending a scheduling meeting. Northview will be playing in a new region this school year, with some traditional opponents and some new, farther away schools.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
