Goal Club Meeting Minutes

September 11, 2006

Russell Whorton called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.  Five members were present.

Fred Van Patten made a presentation on the golf tournament fundraiser planned for this spring.  Due to costly renovations, the Standard Club, where the event was held last year, has raised its prices and is not willing to work with us, so Fred has been exploring other options.  The best alternative is St. Marlo Country Club, which has dates open at the end of March.   The most favorable date is Tuesday, March 20th.  The plan this time is to lower the fee per player to attract more golfers.  Many volunteers will be needed to make this event a success. Help is needed to publicize the event, get sponsors for each hole and various other portions of the event, get donations of items for goodie bags and box lunches, and of course to do various tasks the day of the event.

The board voted to decline the offer to sell soccer bracelets this year.  Many thanks to Diane Luksis and DeSales Wagster for bringing this opportunity to us; however,
The Goal Club will focus its energy on already established fundraising projects.  These include car washes, the Starlit Odyssey, the Golf Tournament, and sponsorships.

Regarding carwashes, there was concern that Wendy’s has stopped allowing them because of the recent water restrictions.  The Eskenazis’ offer to raise funds through car washes at Carnett’s could be a viable substitute or addition if this is found to be true.

Sponsorship opportunities were discussed, including folding signs set up on the track during soccer games, as seen at Norcross HS, warm-up t-shirts for the players with sponsor logos, etc.  Volunteers are needed to pursue these and other ideas.

Player fees for the 2007 season will be $200, still among the lowest of all sports at Northview.  This will include transportation to away games, meals for away games, uniform usage, etc.  The specifics will be worked out as we get closer to the season.  A number of factors were considered when setting the player fee, including rebuilding reserves for the next uniform purchase, continuing the annual turf debt amortization, and potentially starting a fund for a new practice field.  Costs per player per season will be presented to the membership at the appropriate time.

There is an urgent need for volunteers to help with car washes, sponsorships, publicity, the golf tournament, and the Starlit Odyssey.  Please contact any board member if interested.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
