Goal Club Meeting Minutes
October 3, 2005
The minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
Financial Report: Barbara Bauschka reported that anticipated expenses for the year are about $36,000; anticipated income is about $26,000. A tentative budget was passed out.
Coach’s Report:
- Scott Lee has agreed to assist Coach Folds with the JV Boys team.
- Mike Mora, a community coach will continue to assist with the boys teams as well.
- An assistant coach for the varsity girls has also been identified.
- The game schedules were handed out. Varsity games are generally Tuesdays and Fridays, girls playing first. Junior varsity games are generally Mondays and Thursdays will variation in which team plays first.
- General conditioning will begin on Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:15 the week after Thanksgiving break.
Membership Repot: Amy Stille reported that 33 members have joined the “Big” Booster club citing soccer as a recipient of the membership fee. This results of about $8,100.
Fundraising:
- Car Wash: The car was held on Saturday, October 1 at Wendy’s raised about $1,200, part of which goes to help the Hurricane Katrina victims. More than 30 kids participated and 9 adults. The next car wash is scheduled for Saturday, November 5 at Wendy’s John creek from 10 – 3. Additional tentative dates for future car washes have been placed on the school calendar as place holders.
- Car Wash Tickets: Ellen Elsay investigated options for selling car wash coupons. CarNet, which was used by the football team, required a 3-4 year commitment, requires that the soccer program have no carwashes of their own, that they be given signage and verbal recognition at games. She also investigated Club Corners as an alternative. They will product the coupons, to be sold for $10.95 each, 50% of which will come to the club. There are no restrictions on numbers to be sold or other contingencies. This option was agreed to. It is expected that each soccer player will be given 5 tickets to sell. The tickets will be picked up from Coach Cianciola by the students.
- Spring Sports Program: Cheri English volunteered to chair this project, which involves selling advertisements for the program and coordinating the information and photo sessions for the spring sports. Tracey Wilson will assist with this program and reviewed 12 key “principals” regarding the sale of ads and how the proceeds are handled.
- Starlit Odyssey: Kathy Alonso has agreed to chair the soccer club input to this school-wide event. Jayne McCollum will be in charge of ticket sales. Lots of help from the club will be needed to get the items to be auctioned. This year’s event takes place in March, 2006 and will be less formal than in past years. It will be held at the Marriott, off Windward Parkway.
- Golf tournament: Fred Van Patton has agreed to chair this fundraiser to be held Monday, March 27, 2006 at the Standard Club. More than 5 persons volunttered to serve on a committee. They will meet to review the required resources.
Other topics:
- Titantron: A representative from the football program came to describe the way the Titantron works. Guidelines and appropriate forms can be found at their website: touchdowntitans.com. It is possible to sell video ads or static ads. The ads will be produced through a pre-selected company through Chris Barns. The usage fee for the video portion of the board is $150.game and can be pro-rated for back-to-back games. Fulton County owns the board; NHS pays about $5,000/year for maintenance. Students from Jamie Chuven’s Electronic Media Production classes run the board.
- SuperKick: Ryan Austin from SuperKick is running a pre-season program to help players get in shape. The program is a total of 5 weeks plus and extra 2 weeks to make up missed sessions. There are 3 sessions available per week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) and each participant will choose 2 of the 3 to attend. Sign up is needed by Friday, October 7 with a start date of October 11. - Team T-shirts: Tracey Wilson proposed a white T-shirt for girls, and gray for boys. UPS has agreed to sponsor these and will have their logon on the arm of each shirt. The overall design will be the same as in the past.
