Northview Titans Varsity Boys Game Summaries
Northview v. East Coweta Indians 0-1
February 15, 2008
After checking our passports following the long flight to North Florida, the Titans made four changes to their starting line-up and kicked-off in a 4-4-2 formation:-
Carter Rhoad
Tanner Chamblin Caulin Collier Jarrod Neser Russell Bradford
Chris Britton Jacob Lee Jeffrey Degen Dan Schwartz
Stephen Dunbar Chad Elsey
The game got off to a slow start with neither team showing a lot of energy when attacking. In the 6th minute East Coweta won a free kick 15 yards outside of the Titans’ penalty area. The free kick was a long shot which Carter Rhoad managed to tip onto the bar. As the ball dropped, Dan Schwartz was on hand to clear it. Northview’s first attack occurred in the 11th minute following a long throw in by Russell Bradford to Chad Elsey, Chad won a corner on the left side. Jacob Lee took an in-swinging corner which the goalie caught on the line. Two minutes later Northview won a free kick just outside of the box and Chad Elsey’s shot went wide of the left hand upright. In the 18th minute Chris Dunbar also shot wide but this time on the right side of goal. Northview were enjoying more of the possession but, as always, had to be aware of the counter attack. In the 19th minute they had Caulin Collier to thank for a good defensive play breaking up an Indians’ attack near the “D”.
Midway through the half, Chase Reineke made his debut, replacing Russell Bradford. Northview nearly took the lead a few minutes later. Dan Schwartz found Jacob Lee right in front of the goal but as Jacob struggled to gain possession his shot hit the goalie and ran for a corner. Coach C. then decided to bring on Eric Carrion for Stephen Dunbar. Following some good defense by Tanner Chamblin, Northview had another great chance to take the lead. Jeffrey Degen won the ball in midfield and passed to Eric Carrion who put the ball into the six yard box where firstly Chad Elsey then Dan Schwartz both had swings at the ball but failed to connect. Northview won a corner but Jarrod Neser could only head over. In the 25th minute, following some good work by Tanner Chamblin and Jacob Lee, Chris Britton put a shot wide. Shortly thereafter, Chris was subbed out for Jamie Sanclemente.
With 14 minutes left in the half, Jarrod Neser made his presence felt in defense and was given a good talking to by the referee. Following an Indians’ corner, Jarrod passed the ball to Eric Carrion who played it to Jaime Sanclemente. Jamie tried to dribble towards the Indians penalty box only to be unceremoniously dumped to the ground and earning a yellow card for the guilty Indians’ player. Jacob Lee took the free kick from 2 yards outside of the box and the Indians keeper was unable to hold the ball. The rebound came to Jeffrey Degen but he couldn’t control it and another opportunity went begging with 10 minutes left. In the 33rd minute a long through ball from East Coweta forced Carter Rhoad to run outside of his box and boot the ball clear as Indian forwards chased him down.
Northview began the second half with the starting line-up coming back onto the field. Northview had had more clear chances than East Coweta but they were left to rue their missed opportunities when East Coweta took the lead in the 45th minute. A ball down the right wing was brought into Northview’s box by the Indians’ forward and his shot went in off the far post. The Titans went looking for an equalizer with Chris Britton, Dan Schwartz and Jarrod Neser all involved but it was Tanner Chamblin remaining cool, calm and collected at the back snuffing out East Coweta’s counter attack. With 53 minutes gone, a bad foul on Caulin Collier saw him being subbed out and a yellow card to the East Coweta player. Tyler Chamblin replaced Caulin. Not wanting East Coweta to break away, Jarrod Neser earned his first yellow card in the 55th minute. He was replaced by Chase Reineke who immediately looked more comfortable in a central defensive role compared to full back. A few minutes later Caulin came back in for Russell Bradford and Coach C shuffled the defense with Tyler Chamblin taking his brother’s spot at right back and Tanner moving to left back.
In the 56th minute Stephen Dunbar won a corner when his shot was deflected wide. Jacob Lee’s corner was headed back to him by Chase Reineke and as Jacob dribbled towards the box he was fouled very close to the penalty box. Despite protestations by Northview the referee awarded the kick just outside of the box. Jacob drove the ball low and hard but East Coweta cleared it. Jarrod Neser then returned and replaced Stephen Dunbar. Three minutes later another Northview attack saw Jacob Lee upended in the box as he tried to go between two defenders and rather than win a penalty he was given a yellow card for his protestations. Jamie Sanclemente came on for Jacob.
East Coweta began to put some pressure on Northview but Carter Rhoad was able to respond. Chase Reineke had a good long range shot from 25 yards which the keeper fumbled but collected at his second attempt. Jacob came back on for Jamie and Russell returned for Chase with 15 minutes left. Nothing looked like happening and in the 70th minute Eric Carrion subbed-in for Chad Elsey. With six minutes left Northview had a free kick inside the “D” but the five man wall helped block the ball and the keeper saved Jacob Lee’s shot. Chad Elsey returned with four minutes left replacing Tyler Chamblin. As time ran out Russell Bradford was fouled and another East Coweta player was yellow carded. Russell then combined with Jacob Lee but the ball ran out for a goal kick as the referee blew the final whistle. Caulin Collier and an East Coweta player were both given yellow cards at the end of the game.
All told a disappointing result for Northview. Neither team looked as though they wanted the win tonight but taking your chances is what matters. Northview missed theirs in the first half and East Coweta were lucky to take theirs early in the second half.
Final score: Northview Titans 0 – 1 East Coweta Indians.
