Northview Titans Varsity Boys Game Summaries
Northview v. West Forsyth Wolverines
February 19, 2008
The Titans’ home opener had a surprise for everyone. Coach C had dropped Jacob Lee and Jason Scannella from his squad and brought in two replacements!!! The Coppertop brothers had made their way to the big league and you could say, although some parents may disagree, they made hair raising appearances.

Many thanks to Coach C for ensuring that we had three referees – it’s great when the game is played properly. The starting line up was:-
Carter Rhoad
Tyler Chamblin Tanner Chamblin Jarrod Neser Chase Reineke
Chris Britton Jacob Lee Jeffrey Degen Dan Schwartz
Eric Carrion Chad Elsey
The game kicked off with the Titans attacking the TitanTron with the temperature dropping to 52 degrees. Northview dominated the possession from the start against a team, from a first year high school, which looked both young and physically much smaller. Despite their obvious skill, it was apparent that the Wolverines were not going to be much of a threat to the Titans and any trouble was going to be entirely of Northview’s own making. The first six minutes saw Northview control the ball but not get any troubling shots on goal. They then had Tanner Chamblin and Chase Reineke to thank for tidying up a slip which had allowed the Wolverines to attack the Titans’ goal for the first time. Despite all of the possession and winning lots of corners the Titans were hesitant to shoot on target and preferred to try and walk the ball into the goal. After 17 mins, the Titans brought on Jason Scannella (Coppertop 2), Jamie Sanclemente and Stephen Dunbar for Chad Elsey, Jeffrey Degen and Eric Carrion. The change nearly had an immediate impact as Jason Scannella’s corner from the left side hit a Northview player on the goal line and crossed over, however, the referee called a foul on Northview and West Forsyth escaped. Russell Bradford then came on for Tyler Chamblin.
Northview deservedly took the lead in the 24th minute when a usual long throw-in by Jarrod Neser was headed (touched) in by Dan Schwartz. Two minutes later Jason Scannella played the ball to Jarrod Neser and he slipped it to Dan Schwartz who was injured as the goalie made a brave save diving at his feet. Chad Elsey came in for Dan. There was just constant pressure by Northview the whole of the half and with his eighth or ninth corner from the left wing, Jacob Lee (Coppertop 1) put the ball on Chase Reineke’s head but he sent it over the bar.
With 9 minutes left in the half, Russell Bradford and Chad Elsey changed positions and then Tyler Chamblin came on for Chase Reineke. Despite the constant pressure Northview could not manage another goal in the half.
At the start of the second half, Carter “I can score a penalty, coach” Rhoad swapped out for Will “Whose your Daddy” Whorton in goal with the rest of the starting line-up returning. The second half began the way the first half had finished with constant pressure by the Titans and in the 43rd minute Jacob Lee worked his way in from the left flank and fired in a long range goal to increase the Northview advantage. The Titans nearly scored another two minutes later. Chase Reineke, Chad Elsey and Chris Britton all combined to center the ball to Dan Schwartz but with the goal at his mercy, he headed wide.
The Wolverines were beginning to wilt under the pressure and in the 50th minute from another Jacob Lee corner, Eric Carrion headed beyond the goalie to increase the lead to 3 – 0.
Coach C made substitutions as the Titans cruised along. Russell Bradford and Caulin Collier replaced Chase Reineke and Jarrod Neser and later on Jason Scannella, Jamie Sanclemente and Stephen Dunbar replaced Chris Britton, Dan Schwartz and Chad Elsey.
Tonight really was like a stroll in the park for the Titans and in the 71st minute Jacob Lee got his second and Northview’s fourth to register a good win on their home opener.
Final score: Northview Titans 4 – 0 West Forsyth
P.S. Three officials – no cards!!!.
