Northview Titans Varsity Boys Game Summaries
Northview v. S. Forsyth War Eagles 3-2
March 4, 2008
On a cold night, the Titans kicked-off in a 4-4-2 formation:-
Carter Rhoad
Tyler Chamblin Caulin Collier Jarrod Neser Chad Elsey
Jason Scannella Jacob Lee Tanner Chamblin Dan Schwartz
Nick James Eric Carrion
This was a non region game and the Titans were quite lackadaisical in the opening ten minutes. The first action was about 7 minutes into the game when a Jarrod Neser throw-in was headed by Dan Schwartz but he couldn’t direct it towards the War Eagle’s goal. Shortly thereafter Carter Rhoad was called into action with a War Eagle’s breakaway through the middle and Carter had to make a brave save at the foot of the forward. South Forsyth’s pressure paid off in the 13th minute when the Titan’s defense failed to clear and South attacked from the right side and took the lead 1 – 0.
Midway through the half Coach C made his first substitution. No, this was not a hockey line change … there were too many for that! Simply said, with only four starting Titans’ players staying on the field, the line up became:-
Carter Rhoad
Russell Bradford Caulin Collier Jarrod Neser Chase Reineke
Chris Britton Jacob Lee Jeffrey Degen Jamie Sanclemente
Stephen Dunbar Will Whorton
Strange as it seems, this had an effect and within a few minutes Northview won a penalty for handball. Jacob Lee tucked away the penalty to tie the game 1 – 1. With five minutes left in the half Carter Rhoad pulled off a great save to keep the game level.
For the second half, Coach C went back to his starting line up except that Chris Britton replaced Nick James. In the first ten minutes of the second half, Carter Rhoad’s four wonderful saves kept the Titans in the game. Northview came back into the game and in the 53rd minute, a low hard cross from Jason Scannella was turned in by Dan Schwartz to give Northview the lead 2 – 1. The game was beginning to get a little physical and a retaliatory tackle by Jacob Lee earned him a yellow card in the 56th minute. He was replaced by Jeffrey Degen. When he returned Jacob replaced Chris Britton and at the same time Chase Reineke subbed-in for Chad Elsey. Despite allowing the War Eagles to escape unpunished for at least two times by kicking the ball away before Northview could take a free kick, the referee was not as lenient with Caulin Collier and he was yellow carded for the same offense in the 58th minute. Russell Bradford replaced Caulin for the minute he was off the field but three minutes later Russell came back on again for Tyler Chamblin. The game was going back and forth but the War Eagles had a strong wind at their backs and, even though quite skilful, chose to play a long ball whenever they got the chance. In the 68th minute, using the wind Forsyth took a long throw-in and despite pressure from Jarrod Neser headed in an equalizer. Russell and Tyler again flipped positions. Just before the end of full time Jamie Sanclemente replaced Dan Schwartz and with the game tied we headed for extra time. The Titans had more chances during extra time but the game remained tied, so we went to a penalty shoot-out.
