Northview Titans Varsity Boys Game Summaries

Northview v. Milton Eagles 1-2
March 11, 2008

Straight after the game against the local rival, Chattahoochee, came another rival, Milton.  It was a pleasant evening and the Titans kicked-off in a 4-4-2 formation:-

Carter Rhoad
Tyler Chamblin           Caulin Collier              Jarrod Neser                Chase Reineke
Nick James                  Jacob Lee                    Tanner Chamblin         Dan Schwartz
Stephen Dunbar                      Eric Carrion

Northview began the game with an immediate attack which led to Jacob Lee being fouled after 30 seconds.  The free kick went to Tyler Chamblin and he returned it to Jacob whose cross went across the face of the goal but no-one could touch it.  One of Milton’s early attacks was broken up by Nick James.  Northview then combined well with Jacob, Jarrod Neser and Nick to win a throw-in near the Milton box.  Jarrod took the throw but Dan Schwartz was unable to connect and the keeper got the ball.  In the 10th minute, Eric Carrion had a break towards goal but the Milton keeper rushed out of his box and kicked the ball away.

Milton won the first corner of the game in the 15th minute when Carter Rhoad had to dive to his left to push a long range shot around the post.  Nick James headed the corner clear.  At the mid-way point of the half, Jason Scannella, Chris Britton and Chad Elsey replaced Nick James, Stephen Dunbar and Chase Reineke.  At the 22nd minute mark, Jarrod Neser fouled a Milton player just outside of the Titans’ penalty area but Milton’s player sky-ed his free kick.  Three minutes later Tanner Chamblin was called upon to make a sliding tackle just outside of the box and the ball ran for a throw-in to Milton near the corner flag.

Caulin Collier was stood on by a Milton player in the 26th minute and his retaliation got him a yellow card so he was replaced temporarily by Russell Bradford.  Northview were controlling the ball better now and in the 33rd minute Jacob Lee began a move involving Eric Carrion, Dan Schwartz, Jarrod Neser and Tanner Chamblin which resulted in Eric getting in a good shot on goal.

For the second half kick-off, Russell Bradford came in for Tyler Chamblin.  The game ebbed and flowed but eventually, the Titans took the lead in the 50th minute.  A low hard throw-in by Jarrod Neser was met by Dan Schwartz to give the Titans the lead 1 – 0.  Unfortunately, the lead only lasted three minutes as two missed tackles allowed Milton to attack down the left wing and equalize.  Tyler then came back in place of Russell.  Northview went back on the offensive and a free kick was won just outside of Milton’s box.  The kick came to naught as the Titans were called for a foul themselves as the kick was taken.  Will Whorton came on in the 55th minute for Eric Carrion and five minutes after that Jamie Sanclemente replaced Chris Britton and Chase Reineke subbed for Chad Elsey.  Will was given a yellow card so Chris returned in the 60th minute.

Eric Carrion was fouled in the 61st minute and he quickly released the ball to Jacob Lee but his shot was high and wide.  Following some disputed decisions by the referees, much to the chagrin of the home supporters, Jacob Lee passed to Eric Carrion but his shot was well saved by Milton’s goalie.  Nick James re-entered the game, in for Jamie Sanclemente with ten minutes left.  Northview won a free  kick 25 yds out with six minutes remaining but Tanner Chamblin’s shot was blocked by the defensive wall.  Both teams were looking for the go-ahead goal and in the 77th minute good defense by Carter Rhoad and Caulin Collier kept Milton at bay.  Northview had a good chance with 35 seconds remaining as Jeffrey Degen flicked the ball to Jacob Lee but the keeper closed him down quickly and got to the ball first.

Back to the familiar extra time and Jason Scannella was in for Chris Britton.  Both teams had chances with Caulin Collier clearing away a Milton corner, then Jason Scannella feeding Chase Reineke whose pass to Tanner Chamblin was then deflected high for a corner.  Jacob Lee took the corner and Tanner’s header was knocked out to Jason Scannella who hit it back low and hard.  A diving Dan Schwartz got his head to it but it went narrowly wide.  For the second half of extra time Chris and Jason swapped roles again.  Northview then had the best chance of the game with 3 minutes left.  Jacob Lee was put clean through but he could not get a shot away as defenders closed him down.  Jeffrey Degen was following up but his shot was saved by the keeper.  Still tied so off to another penalty shoot-out!
