Northview Titans Varsity Girls Game Summaries
Northview v. Roswell - 1-2 (OT)

The game showed two very evenly matched teams. It featured 3 referees (vs. the usual two) and of course, was supported by the devoted cheerleaders waving a Northview flag and leading cheers in their face paint and capes.
While Northview was on the offensive the first 10 minutes of the game, they were unable to get off any shots on goal.
Roswell’s first scoring attempt was from a corner kick about 16 minutes into the game. Keeper Whitney Ernst successfully batted the ball away.
Northview’s most promising scoring attempts came with about 8 minutes left in the first half. Meghan Swindall took a shot from the right side of the goal, that went just wide of the net. Northview recovered the ball, however, and a minute later Meghan passed the ball to Emily Dixon (Ed), who took an aggressive shot on goal. The Roswell keeper was able to catch it however.
The second half started well for Northview with exciting play in the first few minutes. Meghan Swindall had another great pass to Ed, who took a shot. The ball bounced off the keeper, back in to play and Nicole Ernst recovered it and took a shot on goal. The keeper got back quickly enough to kick the ball out of the goal. With her back to the goal, Ed kicked the ball back over her head from the 15 yard line. The ball was just a few inches left of the goal.
Another promising scoring attempt came at the 6 minute mark starting with a great goal kick by Brittany Bauschka to Nicole Ernst. Excellent passing between Nicole and Ed encouraged the Roswell keeper to come out. The ball was passed to Michelle Mehrjerdian, who took a well-placed shot on goal. The Roswell defense stepped in the block the ball.
Emily Dixon did score about 13 minutes into the second half to put Northview ahead 1-0.
Roswell became even more aggressive and had a few scoring attempts, which were successfully defended. Molly Burke was able to head a ball off of a Roswell corner kick out of the net with about 10 minutes left in the game to preserve Northview’s lead.
With less than 2 minutes left, Roswell had a corner kick, which Northview’s defenders successfully kept out of the goal but gave Roswell a second corner. On the second corner kick and a flurry of kicks in front of the goal, Roswell scored to tie the game.
Two 5-minute overtime sessions followed. Northview’s most promising scoring attempt came in the 1st of the two overtime periods when a beautiful corner kick from Nicole Ernst was headed into the goal by Emily Dixon. The Roswell keeper was able to grab the ball however. The 2nd period had Whitney save two Roswell goal attempts and featured some excellent passing by the Northview team from Jen Gornall and Meredith Kaywood to feed the ball to the forwards. Northview’s last goal attempt came on a free kick with a few seconds left in the period by Nicole Ernst that did not find the goal.
The overtime periods ended with the score still tied, forcing the game to go to penalty kicks. Northview missed the first penalty kick but the following four were successful. Roswell’s first three kicks were also successful. The fourth attempt was batted out of the goal by Whitney Ernst, but the fifth Roswell attempt was successful, keeping the score still tied. Moving to the sixth kicker for each team – Roswell scored and the Northview kicker put the ball over the net giving Roswell the victory. Kicking for Northview were: Meghan Swindall, Nicole Ernst, Emily Dixon, Meredith Kaywood, Brittany Bauschka and Kim Bereznek.
