Northview Titans Varsity Girls Game Summaries

Northview v. Norcross - 0-3
March 7th

The Titans suffered a tough loss to Norcross, with a final score of 3-0.  Both teams played hard in a very physical game.

Norcross’s first scoring attempt was about 2 minutes into the game, but keeper Whitney Ernst was easily able to save it.

Meghan Swindall and the Norcross keeper collided on Northview’s first scoring attempt at about 12 minutes into the first half.  On putting the ball back into play, the keeper kicked the ball well into Northview territory.  In the battle for the ball, a foul was called against Northview right on the box line.  Norcross was awarded a penalty kick and scored, making the score 1-0.

At about the halfway point in the first half, Norcross nearly scored a second time on two different opportunities – one in which the shot went wide of the goal and the second on a corner kick which sweeper Brittany Bauschka kicked out of the goal.

Northview also had several scoring attempt in the remaining part of the half.  Meghan had two back-to-back shots on goal including a slide tackle that nearly pushed the ball across the line before the keeper grabbed it.

With 8 minutes left, midfielder Nicole Ernst dribbled through several Norcross players to take the ball all the way down the field and a hard shot on goal, which their keeper caught.

Forwards Emily Dixon and Meghan Swindall executed a very nice passing sequence in front of the goal to set up a shot by Emily.  The Norcross keeper was again able to save it.  A similar passing scenario occurred with Emily heading a ball to the goal, which the keeper again caught.

During the second half, both teams came out energized and more aggressive than ever.  Northview’s first scoring opportunity came when a lateral pass from Emily to Meghan resulted in a promising shot on goal, which the keeper caught.

Action continued on both ends of the field.  At 9 minutes into the half, Norcross had a corner kick that Molly Burke headed out of the goal.  A second corner kick by Norcross scored their second goal.  Norcross’s 3rd goal came at the half way mark of the 2nd half when a collision in front to Northview’s goal allowed the ball to bounce loose and Norcross to score.

Several other shots on goal by Emily, Meghan and Kate Buccino did not score.
