Northview Titans Varsity Girls Game Summaries

Northview v. Peachtree Ridge- 3-1
March 10th

Northview had a great win in this region game with Peachtree Ridge.  Score was 3-1 with goals from Kim Bereznak, Emily Dixon (Ed) and Nicole Ernst.

There were several scoring opportunities in the first half, including a powerful shot by Nicole Ernst from the 25 yard line at 7 minutes into the game that the keeper was able to stop.  Scoring looked promising a few minutes later, when the keeper came out to challenge Ed, deflected, but did not pick up the ball.  In a flurry of activity Peachtree Ridge defenders were able to kick the ball out of bounds giving Northview a corner kick.  Nicole took the corner kick which was perfectly place to Michelle Mehrjerdian who took a shot.  The keeper was again able to catch the ball.

Shortly afterwards, Ed made an excellent pass across the field to Kayla Griffin who ran up on the ball and took a shot that went wide of the goal.  Just past the halfway point in the half, Ali Clark made an excellent pass to Ed, who shot and scored.  The goal was called back, however Ed was called offsides. 

With 15 minutes left in the half, Kate Buccino was able to take a long shot from the edge of the game field, but it hit the side of the net.  Almost immediately afterwards, Kim  Bereznak got hold of the ball and chipped it over the heads of the defenders to score the first goal. 

The second half saw a change of keepers for Northview.  Jillian English replaced Whitney Ernst who had done a great job during the first half.  The second half started with a series of headballs from one player to the next and a flurry of kicks in front of the goal, but no goals were scored.

At 9 minutes into the second half, Nicole shot from the 20, but it went wide of the goal.  A few minutes later, Jacqueline Klein made a great cross to Kate Buccino, but Northview was not able to score.  Another great cross came from Kayla Griffin at 15 minutes into the half, but the Peachtree Ridge defenders were able to push the ball out of bounds for a Northview corner kick.

Peachtree Ridge finally took some serious shots on goal in the second half.  The first happened at 18 minutes into the half, which Jillian was able to save.  A second shot a few minutes later went wide of the goal.  A third scoring attempt from Peachtree Ridge came with 17 minutes left, and again Jillian handled the ball well.

Northview’s second goal was scored by Nicole Ernst with about 11 minutes left in the game.  Peachtree Ridge’s lone goal came with about 41/2 minutes left in the game when the keeper came out to block the ball, it bounced loose and Peachtree Ridge scored.  Both teams because extra aggressive, and a final shot by Ed with less than a minute resulted in the final goal for Northview.
