Northview Titans Varsity Girls Game Summaries

Northview v. South Forsyth - 0-1
March 14th

This was a tough loss (1-0) to South Forsyth, who was ranked 2nd in the state when we played them.

They dominated for most of the first half, keeping our defenders busy, but the half ended with no score.  SF had several “routine” shots on goal, but there were three “close calls” - one of SF’s goal attempts bounced off the goal post, a free kick from just outside the box also hit the goal post and keeper Whitney Ernst made one diving save.  Playing defense during the first half were keeper Whitney Ernst, Brittany Bauschka, Amy McDonald, Eileen McIntire, Meghan Swindall and Molly Burke.

Northview did have a few scoring opportunities during the first half, notably during the last 10 minutes when  Nicole Ernst made a well-placed shot on goal from a pass from Emily Dixon.  Emily Dixon had a great shot on goal from a pass from Michelle Mehrjerdian.  With only 3 minutes left in the half, Meghan Swindall stole the ball from a SF forward, dribbled the ball through and around several SF player up the field and sent a perfectly placed pass to Kayla Griffin in the corner.  Kayla crossed the ball with a hard kick that the keeper was able to pull out of the air.  The final scoring attempt came when Nicole Ernst made a beautiful free kick that the keeper jumped to save.

The second half got underway with a lot of battling for the ball by both teams.  Four minutes into the half, Jen Gornall disentagled the ball from a crowd of players, did a slide tackle to push the ball toward the goal, but the keeper was able to intercept it.  A minute later, SF scored their first (and only goal). 

Northview continued to take shots on goal all during the half, looking much stronger than during the first half.  Among the best attempts were an indirect kick by Brittany Bauschka that the keeper caught, a shot by Meredith Kaywood, and a beautiful cross by Emily to Michelle Mehrjerdian waiting on the far post.  SF’s keeper made a great save in this instance. During the last few minutes Emily Dixon and Nicole Ernst each made several shots on goal trying to tie the score, but Northview was not able to score.
