Northview Titans Varsity Girls Game Summaries

Northview v. Dacula - 9-0
March 17th

The Titans had a nice win over Dacula, winning 9 – 0.  Ali Clark scored three goals for the Titans.

Northview had numerous scoring opportunities during the game.  The first came a few minutes into the game when Nicole Ernst sent a beautiful corner kick in the front of the goal that Emily Dixon headed in.  The ball bounced off the keeper and out of bounds.   The second attempt came a few minutes later, when both Emily and Meredith Kaywood charged the goal from different sides of the field, causing the keeper to come out and “tackle” the ball.

Kim Bereznek took the next shot, which hit the outside of the net.  Nicole followed with a nice chip over the defenders heads to a series of head balls on the part of the Titans, resulting in a shot on goal by Kayla Griffin.

Seven minutes into the game, Emily passed back to Kate Buccino, who took a long shot on goal that the keeper was able to catch.   Amy McDonald, playing right fullback, brought the ball up the field to take a shot on goal.  Kayla Griffin had another shot on goal ten minutes into the game that the keeper knocked down.

Emily Dixon had the next scoring attempt with a shot from the 15 yard line.  The keeper fumbled the ball and Kim Bereznek rushed in, but the keeper was able to recover the ball.  Several further scoring attempts saw the ball well-passed among the Titan players with several short kicks in front of the goal.  The first goal was score by Kate Buccino after a good team effort to get the ball in place.

The second goal was scored by Molly Burke on a penalty kick after a foul in the box at about the half way point in the half.  The third goal looked promising when Emily was able to break away, but her shot on goal went wide.  The third goal was actually accomplished when a pass from the corner, and a flurry of kicks, resulted in Kayla Griffin putting the ball in the net.

The next goal was scored by Jacqueline Klein on a pass back from Emily and a long shot on goal by J.  The keeper fumbled the ball but J followed through and scored.    Amy McDonald took another shot on goal, again bringing the ball up the field from her defensive position.

The fifth goal resulted when Katie Darby made a perfect pass to Nicole, who shot.  The ball bounced out of the keepers hands and Ali Clark charged the net to score.

Another goal followed shortly when the Ali took another shot, but the keeper had come out of the goal to intercept the ball and collided with Ali, the ball bouncing loose.  Taylor Deadrick was ready and put the ball in the net.

Ali scored her second goal, and the team’s seventh, with a nice left footed shot into the goal after Emily made a nice pass to put her in position.  Kate received a good pass from Kim and took a shot on goal from the 25 yard line, but the keeper was able to save it.   Jen Gornall made a long run from the sweeper position all the way up the field, crossed the ball from the corner to Brittany Bauschka (who normally plays sweeper but had moved temporarily to a forward position).  With less than a minute left in the half, Brittany shot, but the keeper was able to catch the ball.  At the end of the first half, the Titans led 7 – 0.

The second half started with several players trying out new positions.  Brittany had a beautiful cross that the keeper was able to knock down.  Ali was once again ready and followed-thru to score her 3rd goal for a hat trick.  The next opportunity from the Titans came when another perfectly placed pass from Katie Darby to Brittany allowed Brittany another shot.  This went over the goal however.  Brittany next took a free kick that hit the goal post.  The next chance was a corner kick by Brittany to Meredith Kaywood.  Meredith’s shot went wide of the goal and out of bounds.

The first goal of the 2nd half, goal # 9, was scored by Michelle Mehrjerdian.  It was a very nice shot from the 25 yard line about 10 minutes into the half.  Michelle had another opportunity a few minutes later when her next shot on goal bounced out of the keeper’s hands.  Michelle immediately took another shot, but a defender was able to put the ball out of bounds.  Emily was able to take another shot on goal a few minutes later, but the keeper was again able to catch the ball.

Northview continued taking shots, with the next by Kayla Griffin with about 15 minutes into the half on a pass from Meghan Swindall.  The next goal attempt came when Meghan made a good run with the ball up the field.  The keeper once again came out of the goal, but this time was able to get the ball.  Kim also made a good run with the ball, passing to Emily who took another shot on goal.  The next run came from Eileen McIntire, who took the ball down the field, crossed the ball from the corner to Emily who tried to push the ball into the goal.  A few last minute scoring attempts were made by Kayla and Kate, but the final score was 9 – 0.

Northview's keepers (Whitney Ernst in the first half, Jillian English in the second half) had a fairly easy time of it for a change since Dacula made no real shots on goal during the game.
