Northview Titans Varsity Girls Game Summaries
Northview v. Mill Creek - 2-0
March 21st
The girls pulled out a nice win over Mill Creek with two goals by Emily Dixon in the 2nd half.
The first notable activity in the first half came at about 3 minutes into the game with a Mill Creek player heading the ball in the direction of the goal, but keeper Whitney Ernst was easily able to pick it up and punt it down field. Northview’s first scoring opportunity came at 6 minutes into the half when Emily Dixon (Ed) took a shot on goal that hit the goal post. Michelle Mehrjerdian was there for the rebound and also kicked the ball into the goal post!
Northview continued to play well with Ed making a very nice run, dribbling past several players. At the 10 minute mark, Meghan Swindall took a long shot on goal from the 25 yard line which the keeper caught. Kim Bereznak followed shortly afterwards with another shot, but this one hit the side of the net and went out of bounds. A corner kick by Meghan a minute later landed in a sea of player and nearly went out of bounds again, but Michelle did a nice pull back and took a left footed shot that went across the front of the goal.
At 15 minutes into the half, Michelle jumped for a very well directed head ball to Kim, who took the ball to the side for another shot, which also hit the side of the net. Back and forth play continued for most of the remainder of the half, with the only notable scoring attempt by either team came with only 2 minutes left and Meredith Kaywood dribbled to the goal, met the charging keeper and the ball bounced loose. Northview was there for the rebound, but the shot went wide of the goal. The half ended in a scoreless tie.
The second half saw several promising scoring opportunities that didn’t quite result in a goal: Ed headed a ball from a corner kick from Nicole Ernst in the first few minutes of the half. A second corner kick, this time by Meghan was well-placed in front of the goal by Meredith had a little too much power and the ball went over the goal. At 15 minutes into the half, Meghan took another corner kick, again headed by Ed, but the ball landed out of bounds, wide of the goal. NHS almost scored 18 minutes into the half when Ed and Jacqueline Klein (J) both ran to the ball from opposite sides of the field and one of them took a shot on goal. Northview again nearly scored at the halfway point in the half when Ed sent a nice cross to J who had a nice shot on goal. The Mill Creek keeper made a very nice diving save.
Northview finally scored 22 minutes into the game with great teamwork beginning with a free kick by Brittany Bauschka right to Meghan, who in turn sent a perfect pass to Ed, who scored the goal.
Ed worked her way around several players, passing the ball to herself with about 10 minutes left in the half for another shot on goal, which the MC keeper was able to stop. Another scoring opportunity came from a corner kick a few minutes later when Nicole sent another perfectly placed corner kick toward the goal. Molly Burke was able to get a head on it, but the keeper caught the ball. Ed had her second goal with 6 minutes left in the game with a beautiful shot.
Mill Creek’s only real scoring opportunity came with only 2 minutes left in the half, when they took a corner kick that Whitney was able to grab, but then it slipped out of her hands. The Northview defense (Brittany Bauschka, Amy McDonald, and Eileen McIntire) had lined themselves up on the goal line ready to handle a 2nd shot from MC, but Whitney was able to recover the ball to earn the shutout.
